KIP MOORE AND FRIENDS LIGHT UP PENNYSAVER AMPHITHEATER FARMINGVILLE, NY 8-29-14

Weeks prior to the CMT Up In Smoke Tour, Kip Moore made a stop at Pennysaver Amphitheater on Saturday August 29th for yet another stellar country show put on by Long Island’s My Country 96.1 FM.  With direct support from an exciting line-up of Brothers Osborne, LoCash Cowboys, and Chris Stapleton, Long Island’s growing country fan base was treated to beautiful end of summer weather at one of Long Island’s most unique outdoor venues with some of the genre’s most exciting young stars.

Brothers Osborne, comprised of brothers John and T.J, were the first act to take the stage. With them they brought T.J.’s traditional, deep country vocals, mixed with a delightfully easy-going folk-like rock sound. T.J. Osborne’s voice makes Brothers Osborne a very pleasant band to listen to in a live setting, and is a memorable feature to many fans that are not familiar with their music. Because they currently have just two singles released, many of the songs the brothers performed were not yet known to those in the audience. That may change with the impending release of their self-titled five-track EP set to be released on September 9th, but it did not stop fans from enjoying all the new music they got to hear from one of country music’s up-and-coming bands. The Brothers Osborne opened with a song that will be included on this new EP called “Shoot From The Hip”, a song with a great hook in the chorus that has a definite outlaw country vibe. They also played previous single “Let’s Go There” and new songs “The Last One”, “Stay A Little Longer”, and “Pins and Needles”, which are candidates to be included on their full length album that is expected sometime in 2015. They closed their set with their current radio single “Rum”; a fun, mid-tempo summery song that is currently sitting at #35 on the Billboard Country Charts.

DARIUS RUCKER DELIGHTS PENNYSAVER AMPHITHEATER FARMINGVILLE, NY 7-26-14 WITH ERIC PASLAY & JOEL CROUSE

The Island Federal Credit Union summer concert series has already brought A-list country stars to Pennysaver Amphitheater in Farmingville, NY on multiple occasions, and did so once again on Saturday July 26th. Long Islanders were already treated to Brantley Gilbert, Thomas Rhett, Tyler Farr, Cole Swindell, The Band Perry, and so many more on previous occasions, which was met with great success. Hootie & the Blowfish vocalist Darius Rucker took Long Island by storm with the help of Eric Paslay and Joel Crouse to once again pack the house with country fans from across the island.

Taking the stage first was Nashville, Tennessee’s Joel Crouse. Despite having only been a part of country music for three years, at the age of 22 Crouse has already shared the stage with some of the biggest and most respected names in the industry including Toby Keith and The Band Perry. Opening with the popular single “Why God Made Love Songs”, off of his forthcoming album Even the River Runs, he continued on from there to play a good mix of songs, including his debut single “If you Want Some” released in 2013, which fans really seemed to enjoy.  It was clear how much Crouse enjoys what he is doing by the giant smile that was painted on his face all throughout the set. That smile became even bigger when he introduced each song and explained how proud he was to have worked with guitarist and close friend Kyle Rife.  Everyone really seemed to love the entire set, especially songs that have yet to be released.  There is no doubt fans are in for a real treat when Even the River Runs comes out later this year!

PARTY 105 AND SHAGGY SAVE THE MUSIC

SUPERSTAR ENTERTAINER TEAMS UP WITH PARTY 105 TO SAVE THE SACHEM HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND

Ronkonkoma, New York – When Sachem school district Superintendent James Nolan realized the Sachem Marching band needed financial support to survive he did what any good educator would do, he looked through his Rolodex to find some alumni that could help.  He got all the way to the end of his list and found local radio super jocks Vic ‘Latino’ Canales and Matt Goldapper, the dynamic duo of top Long Island station Party 105 were not only graduates of the district, but they are also local radio legends!

The Sachem school district went through a very difficult budget process and as with most districts on Long Island, they began scrambling to raise funds for their programs, organizations and teams.  Their marching band, a staple for years, was caught up in this crunch and found out that they needed to raise between $45,000 and $50,000 just to keep the program in place.  Many parents, teachers and friends thought this was a daunting, impossible task.  That’s when Mr. Nolan stepped in and offered the idea of a band night, but how to pack the house and raise a lot of money, that’s when local radio stepped up to the plate.

Vic ‘Latino’ Canales put his Twitter account into full send mode and called a few of his contacts, but who was in the Party 105 studio that day recording an interview- Superstar Shaggy!  Within seconds the event was born.  Grammy Award winning music sensation Shaggy is headlining the Save the Music Concert on Friday November 1st.  Live from the Auditorium at Sequoya Middle School in Holtsville Shaggy will rock the house with all of his hits including “Boombastic”, “It Wasn’t me” and  “Angel”.

This is a first for the district a first for radio station Party 105 and even a first for Shaggy who never played a middle school auditorium!  The radio station is a local favorite with students at Sachem, the largest school district on Long Island, but having a Party 105 Mega Jam concert in their middle school auditorium was unimaginable.  “ I can’t thank the station enough”, said Guy Dellecave, Vice President of the Sachem Marching Band Parents Alliance, “ radio stations just don’t do this kind of stuff, but Party 105 and JVC Broadcasting are a local Long Island company and they are constantly doing things for the community, it is just great to have them in our backyard”, he added.

“This event was a no-brainer for us’, said Vic ‘Latino’ Canales, COO of JVC Broadcasting, “Our company was built on the ideology that radio is live, local and all about the community, this is what we do, we bring live, local radio back to the community and we have fun doing it”.

The event is open to the public, but tickets are limited and this event will sell out.  For ticket information contact the Sachem Marching Band Parents Alliance at :  631-828-4423

DISCO FEVER 2012

Suffolk radio station blends community awareness with merengue and reggaeton.

With Merengue, Reggaeton, and Community Awareness, Suffolk Radio Station Unites Spanish Speakers

While the last notes of a well-known Colombian salsa song play out and a Venezuelan merengue is next on the pre-recorded mix, Ana Maria Caraballo, 29, takes a call from a Dominican woman who just won a pair of tickets for an upcoming reggaeton concert.

Having been recently promoted to program director, in addition to her on-air radio personality job for WBON La Fiesta 98.5FM, Caraballo, a Puerto Rican native, is no stranger to dealing with the rich diversity of Latin culture and all the differences that exist between nationalities.

“Latinos are a melting pot,” she said.

Caraballo, who came from New Jersey to have her own show at La Fiesta, was surprised to find such an ethnic diversity east of New York City. “I didn’t even know there was a huge community of Hispanic people on Long Island.”

Through La Fiesta, Spanish-speaking immigrants from Huntington to Montauk have been able to move to the rhythm of music from their native countries, listen to Latino-centric talk shows, and receive important information about everything from immigration policy to charity events.

Hear Caraballo talk about La Fiesta:

As a Suffolk-based radio station, La Fiesta is considered “class A” due to its limited geographical reach, a fact that John Caracciolo, the owner of the station, considers an advantage. With a more focused listenership, he can offer cheaper advertising rates than other radio stations that also cover New York City.

“We’re built and continue to be built on local advertisers,” Caracciolo said.

With advertisers such as Huntington Honda, TD Bank, and the Long Island Ducks baseball team, this niche methodology is especially important for La Fiesta, the only Spanish-language radio station that reaches all of Suffolk County. There’s definitely an audience: Suffolk is home to 246,000 Latinos, or 16 percent of the total population, according to a recent Suffolk County Government Comprehensive Plan report. Of those Latinos, the Fiscal Policy Institute reported in a 2010 survey that about 170,000 are Spanish-speakers.

“La Fiesta was needed,” Caracciolo said.

THESE STUDENTS SING AND PLAY LEE GREENWOOD MUSIC AS THEY RAISE MONEY TO HONOR THOSE WHO PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS

Walk into any school, High School, Junior High or elementary school anywhere on Long Island or anywhere in America and the first thing you will run into is a trophy case commemorating athletes, the theater program, scholars and even musicians.  All very well deserved honors and very fitting.  But what we are missing is that wall of honor that salutes the brave men and women who have graduated from these very schools, have joined the armed forces and have gone on to protect and serve our Country.  We need to honor them as well.

At a time when our Country is at a confusing point, a public school in Brooklyn bans students from singing a patriotic Lee Greenwood anthem,  a young lady from Long Island is taking a different approach and My Country 96.1 WJVC radio is calling on all its listeners to ban together to help her reach her goal

Meet Chelsea Anderson a High School Junior from Eastport South Manor Junior Senior High School in Manorville.  She along with her classmates formed the Wall of Honor Committee and their goal is to build a wall outside their school library that will honor the brave men and women who have graduated from ESM Junior Senior High and have gone on to protect and serve our great land.

This is a huge undertaking and the students have committed a tremendous amount of time and effort to complete this project.  It is estimated that the wall will cost $60,000 to complete this is a small amount when it is compared to the contribution of these men and women to our country each and every day.

On Wednesday June 20th, My Country 96.1 FM morning radio host Phathead invited Chelsea Anderson and the Principal of ESM Junior Senior High School on his morning radio show to discuss the project and introduce their plans to the My Country 96.1 FM Long Island listeners.  The studio phones, the stations facebook and Twitter accounts went into overload with offers of support and encouragement.   “All the listeners of My Country 96.1 asked how they could help and what they could do to get involved” said morning man Phathead.  “So I figured, why not have the students on stage at our big Freedom Fest concert and give our listeners a chance to meet them and donate towards the project  and we’ll even play Lee Greenwood God Bless the USA while they are on stage”,  he added.

So with a few phone calls and some quick thinking, My Country 96.1 is going to get them their wall!  On July 3rd 2012, My Country 96.1 presents its second annual Freedom Fest Concert at the Pennysaver Amphitheater at Bald Hill. This is an all day festival and celebration of America staring Country Music superstar Dierks Bentley and eight additional acts.  Phathead called his friends at Capital Records who spoke to Dierks and filled him in on the project and he immediately offered to donate one of his brand new acoustic guitars and two meet and greet passes for the July 3rd show.  The guitar will be raffled off on July 3rd and the lucky winner will get to take the guitar back stage so Dierks can personally sign it for them.  This is a once in a lifetime priceless prize that will give the students the ability to raise a big chunk of money for this project.  All the proceeds from this raffle and all the donations from the day will go to the ESM wall of Honor committee.

The My Country 96.1 Freedom Fest concert will be July 3rd at The Pennysaver Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Farmingville.   Gates open at 12 noon and the show starts at 1pm.  A limited number of tickets are still available at Ticketmaster.  For more information go to www.mycountryli.com
